My Family and Background

Before we work together you probably would like to know something about me. Now that our two girls are off to University my wife Anne and I are adapting to being empty nesters in our home on the Springs Golf Course in Radium Hot Springs (no, this picture is not of my house). I now have more time to pursue my other passion (other than my family and real estate) which is golf. I was lucky enough last year to take my 83 year old Father on a trip of a lifetime to "the Old Course" at St. Andrews.

How did I became to be a top producing REALTOR (in the top 1% for Royal LePage nationwide in 2006) in the tiny community of Invermere? Well, I graduated from the University of Alberta with a Commerce degree back in 1977 and always having an interest in real estate I applied for a job with a prominent commercial real estate agency in Edmonton. Low and behold I got that job and was fortunate to work as a licensed assistant for two of their top commercial REALTORS. This was quite an education in the real world and fueled my passion for real estate even more. I then went out on my own selling and leasing commercial real estate for five years in Edmonton. This time frame as many of you Albertans know meant that I was doing real estate through one of the biggest collapse in real estate values in Alberta's history as a result of the NEP and the rapidly rising interest rates. Needless to say this was an extremely difficult time for everyone involved in real estate. At about this same time, two of my friends from University had gotten their CA's and had moved to Phoenix Arizona where they started an accounting and financial planning firm. They asked me if I wanted to come down and join them and I jumped on the opportunity. We got involved in doing real estate limited partnerships of commercial properties and I headed up the company that acquired and managed these properties. This business flourished until the federal government changed the tax laws in 1986 which eventually resulted in all the Saving and Loan banks in Arizona going bankrupt and these banks then sold off their foreclosed real estate off at 10 cents on the dollar. This ruined the real estate market for several years. My wife and I had two small children who were fast approaching school age and we really wanted to raise them in a better environment and school system so we decided to move back to Canada in 1991. We chose Invermere since I had family here and it felt like home to me having spent all my summers here as a child. I worked for Windermere Realty for five years and then formed Royal LePage Rockies West with a partner in 1996. The rest as they say is history. Hard work and a passion for real estate has led to my success. If you would like to put all my experience to work for you then I look forward to meeting you soon.
